where the ocean meets the land

There He stands, bold and firm, announcing to the world “I am!”

She laughs at Him, lapping at His feet, teasing and flirting;

He enjoys the attention, holding Himself proud, aloft;

At that, She scorns and mocks Him, as She ebbs away;

Twinges of uncertainty shiver Him, yet He holds steady;

She dances playfully around Him as She floods once more;

He does not begin to understand Her, but still He is present;

Without warning, She becomes a wild, crazed maelstrom;

He shudders at Her wrath and Her power as she lashes Him;

And He knows that one day She will consume Him;

Yet the silence of His being is not shaken;

Rather He declares to Her,

“I am here: from You; with You; in You.”

With this She melts around Him and He is gone;

They are no more She and He.
